You’ve certainly heard about Franco and Andrea Antonello’s story. Andrea – Franco’s son -was diagnosed with autism when he was very young. Since then, he and his father have travelled all around the world and together, they have written books about their incredible experiences.
Franco had come to know the world of disability and the lack of assistance that families have to cope with, so he decided to do something: he would take his experience as an entrepreneur and put it to the service of society in an effective and organized way.
That’s how the project “I Bambini delle Fate” (“The Fairies’ Children”) was developed and launched in 2005. This social entreprise aims to provide financial support for social inclusion activities for kids and families that have to deal with autism or other disabilities.
This year Starpool has decided to support them. The goal is to ensure the realization of continuous projects within the facilities in our geographical area and particularly in Casa Sebastiano, a specialized centre for autism spectrum disorders located in Coredo, in Trentino. Casa Sebastiano is a welcoming place, whose goal is not to “treat a disease” but rather to offer opportunities in terms of education and growth, of training and study.
Starpool has been committed to this cause for several years, and in 2018 the company donated to Casa Sebastiano a Zerobody bed for the floating therapy. It allows the teenagers to rest, relax and reduce the pressure that social interaction causes them. Their body benefits from the floating therapy, in that it immediately releases the muscular and articular tension that comes from their condition.
We’re very proud to say that 95% of the kids in Casa Sebastiano regularly uses Zerobody, choosing it autonomously among the wellness and leisure activities proposed by the staff. Since the beginning of our partnership, it has been used about 1200 times with an average session of 20 minutes.
However, it’s not the numbers that make us proud, but the stories and the experiences of the kids. Thanks to Zerobody, they finally get to live moments of well-being that can sometimes become long-term benefits related to the most challenging aspects of their condition.
